- Description:
- This is a well-preserved cast of a section of East VI, a damaged original. The section of the block represented by this cast is particularly fragmentary and damaged and is preserved or restored primarily from casts. In this cast, Aphrodite (fig. 41), who is seated on a stool, is represented by her draped legs and left arm. Eros (fig. 42), nude except for a small garment draped over his forearms and behind him, faces to the right (viewer's) and leans back against Aphrodite, resting his right arm on her leg. He is depicted in a three-quarter pose with his head in profile. In his lowered left hand he holds the shaft of a tall parasol. Aphrodite points with her left arm behind Eros' neck towards a bearded man (fig. 43) in a himation, perhaps an eponymous hero of Athens, a dignitary, or a magistrate. He is shown in profile stooping against his staff as he joins in conversation with three additional men not contained in this cast. His back is to the deities. Artemis' right foot is also visible in the lower left corner of the block.
