- Description:
- This is a partial cast (bust only) of a marble statue of Artemis held in Munich and known as the Artemis Braschi. The goddess' face is round, her chin is fleshy. She turns her head to her right and looks serenely ahead with large eyes. She has a small nose and closed lips that curve up vaguely at the corners. Her wavy hair is parted in the middle and banded by a braid above the forehead. A long lock falls from behind each ear onto her chest. She wears an elaborate headpiece decorated with standing stags and from the back of which a veil is draped, and her garment falls in folds and swirls on her chest. The top of her quiver is visible above her right shoulder. Its thick cord crosses her chest and right shoulder. This cast preserves restorations to the nose, headpiece, veil, and quiver that are no longer present on the original.
