- Description:
- This is a cast of a marble bust of Dionysos housed at the Louvre. Dionysos turns his head slightly to his right and looks ahead calmly with almond-shaped eyes and parted lips. His hair, twisted at the sides and falling in long, loose curls on his neck, is tied above his low forehead with large fabric band or turban. The god has a full, curly beard. The bust ends just below the collar bone.
Dionysos is shown here in eastern head wear and is identified in Louvre catalogs as "Dionysos Indien". A fuller, recent discussion of the work remains to be found
