- Description:
- This is a cast of an inscription (Meiggs and Lewis 32) in Ionic Greek on a marble stele recording a change to laws at Halikarnassos governing property disputes. The block is housed in the British Museum. At some time after it was initially recorded and copied in 1749, the stele was cut and used for window jambs. It was rediscovered by Sir Charles Newton in the second half of the 19th century. The two to four letters lost in the middle of each line are restored from the 18th century copy.
