- Description:
- This is a cast of a double herm of Euripides and Sophokles housed in Bonn. Euripides is of the Farnese type, with wavy, longish hair thinning at the high, squared forehead, a full beard, thin lips, and a modest overbite. In the original Euripides' nose and eyes are restored, as are parts of his hair and a small part of the herm. Those restorations are reflected in this cast. Sophokles is also of the Farnese type, a Sophokles portrait type named for the head in Naples (Nat. Arch. Museum no. 6413). The tragedian has a narrow fillet in his shorter, wavy hair, and a full beard. His mouth is closed and he looks ahead with smallish eyes. Sophokles' nose is restored in the original, as here. The cast sits on a modern base with the names of each playwright inscribed in Greek with letters painted red. Euripides' head is pictured here.
