- Description:
- This is a cast of a double herm of Menander and another figure, possibly Aristophanes, housed in Bonn. Menander's hair is short and falls in thick locks at the hairline. He is beardless with a squared forehead and jawline. The comic playwright is depicted in middle age with wrinkles on the forehead and at the corners of his forward-glancing eyes. His lips are very slightly parted. The second figure, identified by Richter and others as Aristophanes, has short hair, a receding hairline along which doughy locks sit, and a narrow fillet in his hair. He is broad-faced with a full beard and a wrinkled brow. The figure looks straight ahead. Restorations to the nose of both figures are reflected in the cast. The cast sits on a modern base with the names of each playwright inscribed in Greek with letters painted red. Menander's head is pictured here.
