Graves - Image View Description:
- Image of an unmarked Sri Lankan grave, composed of stones, a dirt mound, trees and branches. The grave is purported to be the resting place of the last Kandyan queen.
- Description:
- When the British deposed the king of Kandy in 1815, he and members of his household fled to the distant hills in Dumbara. A Mimure legendary account implicates the village in this story and ties it to an important juncture in Sri Lankan history. The king and members of the royal household were quickly captured on their way to Medamahanuwara. The king was subsequently deported to India for the remainder of his life.
