Ousterhout:"The Sultan Han (1232-36), a caravanserai near Aksaray in central Anatolia, was part of the Seljuk development of transport routes along the Silk Road, providing secure overnight accommodation for travellers. Haynes photographed the ruins in 1884 and again in 1887. In this 1884 shot of the interior of the vaulted hall, looking north, Sterrett is standing in the background, next to the blocked entrance."
