Ousterhout: "Borsippa (Birs Nimrud), an ancient Sumerian city excavated by Sir Henry Cheswicke Rawlinson in 1854 and again by Hormuzd Rassam for the British Museum between 1879 and 1881. The ziggurat, with its distinctive tower, was identified in Talmudic and Arabic sources as the Tower of Babel. Haynes visited the site with the Wolfe Expedition of 1885.")
