- Description:
- Assemblage contains 1933 and 1937 inaugural items, 1938 Democratic campaign contributor items, and two halftone reproductions of inaugural photographs. Lot also includes a medallion made by Medallic Art Inc. with reverse reading By / Public Acclaim / For A Deed / Done In Private / Sands Point / August 26 / 1933. This pendant apparently refers to an incident in which Louisiana Governor Huey Long was punched in the men's room of the Sands Point Bath Club, New York, on August 26, 1933. A subscription was taken up to create a medal for the anonymous person who hit the controversial Long, which allowed the Medallic Art Co. to create the medal. The item is sometimes called the Washroom Warrior medal (see ww.coinbooks.org/club_nbs_esylum_v0http://w4n32.html).
