- Description:
- Assemblage consists of nine copper alloy medals
one large copper alloy medallion
an 1864 ferrotype portrait mounted in a carved bone lapel stud
and an April 13, 1868 admission ticket to the Impeachment of Andrew Johnson. One medal advertises Dickeson's Coin & Medal Safe, manufactured by Evans & Watson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Another medal was issued in connection with the August 14, 1866 National Union Convention, held in Philadelphia. A third medal was issued in association with the August 29, 1866 Public Reception and Banquet held by the Municipal Authorities of New York, New York. The George Washington portrait medal is likely to have been manufactured by Robert Lovett, Jr., of Philadelphia in approximately 1860. The large medallion dated 1865 is likely to be a copper alloy reproduction of the 1865 Johnson Indian Peace Medal created by sculptor-engraver Anthony C. Paquet. The small ANDREW / JOHNSON/ 1865 piece is a commemorative medal made by Brichaut (which may have been issued in connection with the 1876 U.S. Centennial). - Cite As:
