- Description:
- Assemblage contains both original Pierce-King campaign items and Pierce commemorative items. The four small portrait medals and the larger GENERAL. / F. PIERCE. portrait medal are likely to be campaign items. The large medallion dated 1853 is likely to be a copper alloy reproduction of the 1853 Pierce Indian Peace Medal created by sculptor-engravers Salathiel Ellis and Joseph Willson. The small FRANKLIN / PIERCE / 1853 piece is a commemorative medal made by Brichaut (which may have been issued in connection with the 1876 U.S. Centennial). The paper portrait is a halftone reproduction of an 1852 N. Currier lithograph, possibly from a sales catalog.
