- Description:
- Assemblage contains a variety of Van Buren campaign and commemorative items. One pendant is clearly marked as an 1840 campaign item, and most of the remaining campaign pieces likely also date to this election (see Fischer 1988: 45-49). One medal is a memorial piece issued after Van Buren's death in 1862. The medal by Brichaut is one of a series of presidential medals that may have been issued in conjunction with the 1876 U.S. centennial. The large peace and friendship medallion is a likely reproduction of the Van Buren Indian peace medal by Moritz Fâ¿rst. Mount also contains a 20th century halftone reproduction of an N. Currier portrait of Van Buren. One of the ca. 1840 pendants has the untraced maker's mark I.F.T.
