Money - Measurement:
- 13.335 x 15.875 (Mount) (centimeters)
- Description:
- Mount contains both Jackson promotional items (two Jackson portrait medals) and anti-Jackson and Van Buren satirical pieces issued by the Whig Party. Whig items criticize Democratic economic policies, including references to Jackson's removal of funds from the Bank of the United States and the Panic of 1837. The LL.D. printed on the donkey refers to an honorary degree given to Jackson by Harvard University. Donor Susan H. Douglas refers to these medals as Hard Times Tokens. References: Fischer 1988: 21-25.
