- Description:
- Several medals and pendants represent Jackson as the Hero of New Orleans, referring to his military success during the War of 1812. Two of these items were issued as commemorative pieces after Jackson's death. Each of the equestrian portrait medals and four of the small profile portrait medals without military garb contain images of George Washington on the reverse. The majority of these materials are originals from the 1828-1845 era (see Fischer 1988: 15-16).
