- Description:
- Ninety-six page soft-cover book contains political song lyrics promoting the 1872 Republican Party ticket and a cover portrait of U.S. Grant. Collection published by the Union Republican Congressional Committee and printed by Gibson Brothers of Washington, D.C. Lyrics were intended to be sung to the tunes of then-popular songs. Collection makes frequent reference to Horace Greeley's career as a gentleman farmer and Grant's prior work as a tanner. One song (on pages 61-62) presents a mock obituary for Greeley, who actually died shortly after losing the election
the final song in the book is in German. - Cite As:
