- Description:
- Item consists of a black velvet ribbon with an albumen print portrait and an 1868 portrait medal attached to it. Black color of ribbon makes it likely that this is a memorial assemblage composed from earlier artifacts. The obverse of the medal reads GENERAL / U.S. GRANT / 1868 and the reverse contains the U.S. Grant quotation I PROPOSE TO FIGHT IT OUT ON THIS LINE / IF IT TAKES ALL SUMMER. Item donor Susan H. Douglas displayed this ribbon with possible Grant memorial item 2214.RB0107.
