- Description:
- Cardboard-sided sewing box with a velvet pincushion top and a portrait etching of Andrew Jackson on the interior of the lid. Pincushion bears the slogan VICTORY TO JACKSON and images of American flags and leaves. Sides of box are covered with a wallpaper-like material. Jackson portrait on the inside is currently covered with glass, which may not be original. Fischer (1988: Figures 12 & 16) dates this type of sewing box to the Presidential campaigns of 1828-1832 and asserts they were made in France.
