- Mechanical coin bank contains the inscriptions TAMMANY / BANK on each side of chair and PATd DEC 23 1873 on the back. When user places a coin in the outstretched hand of the seated man, he drops the coin into his pocket and nods. Item donor Susan H. Douglas claims the individual represented is New York City Democratic Party leader William Marcy Boss Tweed
if so, the resemblance is not strong. When cataloged, the bank contained eight coins dating to 1935-1972. - Cite As:
